David “Dave Rockstar” Heilker has been playing Magic since right after The Dark. He returned from a five year hiatus around the release of Shadowmoor alarmed at the price of several of the Standard environment’s staples. Since then he has stayed within a strict budget using only profits from cards he’s bought or traded for to maintain his cardboard habit.
He is a veteran of the financial services and real estate industries, and imparts this knowledge to draw parallels between “real” economies and that of the Magic market. Two years after his return to the game, he founded 02drop.com, a regional strategy site where he often discusses the economics of the game in his articles. Dave specializes in acquiring cards that have already “caught fire” for “last week’s” prices.
