Quiet the powerful effect tacked onto a low-costed creature.
This card can cause some serious damage if left unchecked. I think the key here, is if. It’s a a fragile body, and doesn’t have Haste. So, this needs some help to close out a game quickly. Luckily there’s some cards that easily come to mind that make this card dangerous.
There may be some “Magical Christmasland” scenarios out there involving this card, but sometimes it doesn’t seem farfetched to be playing this along a normal curve and win the game. While there’s extremely viable answers to Combat Celebrant like Walking Ballista this card forces the opponent to have those answers immediately or risk losing quickly.
I’m not overly confidant in the future of this card in Standard, but this card could randomly pop up here and there as players explore the options of infinite combos and general value via Collected Company. I also wonder if somehow Felidar Guardian doesn’t remain in Standard this could potentially fill in as a value card to copy.
This card’s chances at maintaining a high value are fairly slim. I don’t think it’s on the same level as other cards in this set from early testing. It’s impact on the game is entirely dependent on other cards, and is highly susceptible to removal. Unlike a card such as Glorybringer. It could very well go the way of similar Red mythics from recent sets such as Flame-Wreath Phoenix or Goldnight Castigator. If there’s an archetype that forms around this card, and successful – then there may be desire for players to acquire this. I do feel regardless there are more desirable cards in Amonkhet.
