Grim Monolith is one of the best cards in the deck. Opening up with turn one [card]Ancient Tomb[card], Grim Monolith will set you up for some insane turn two plays. It also enables things like Metalworker or Lodestone Golem on turn one. The obvious synergy here is Voltaic Key, which becomes a Sol Ring with Monolith in play. Voltaic Key is the Swiss army knife of the deck. In Meandeck MUD, it reads:

Spine of Ish Rah has been testing well for me in Vintage Kuldotha MUD, but without a way to really discard it, casting it against Null Rod will be tough.

I'm loving the decklist, especially since I already have most of the pieces for it. Getting Metalworkers, however, is proving most difficult. As far as dealing with Null Rod, the only thing I can think of is to float R in response, and after Rod resolves, use something like Shattering Spree. Perhaps Goblin Vandal? Rustmouth Ogre is another option with a bigger body, but is probably too slow, even with this deck. Goblin Vandal seems to be the best thing I can come up with if you know your opponent sided in Null Rod, but really only seems effective as a deterrent-(kill me before you can play your null rod). Otherwise, the deck would have to be diluted with a nonartifact sources of colored mana.

I think I swung in with the deathtouch tokens because I had no reason not to. Once you have welder+wurmcoil online you have practically infinite blockers.

I'll also freely admit that combat isn't my strong suite 😛

I remember your second game vs the round 6 Fish opponent. You got double Welder, Wurmcoil out around turn 5. I'm pretty sure I watched you make some of the most unreasonable attacks ever with your tokens for no reason, but it was irrel as you had a million.

The staying power of the deck really depends on it's popularity. Much like affinity, if it becomes too popular null rod can lock it out of the meta.

If we come up with a good solution to nullrod the deck could be a long-term player.

I actively scoured the top 16 decklists from the last two starcity legacy opens to make sure nullrod wasn't showing up in real numbers. It wasn't so I felt confident playing the deck.

Great article you sure have created alot of buzz in Legacy at the very least even if this deck is a one hit wonder, it looks to be pretty solid though how do you feel about its staying power?
