Charles hits it right on the head. If my opponent wants to waste a Swords to Plowshares on this guy he is more than welcome. I basically played a spell: R – Target player discards a card, gain 4 life. I'm A OK with that option.

Though you are correct, it's not a guaranteed 4 damage. I missed the lack of haste – thanks for the clarification!

He was referring to if they pay the life. This card is good because it will always do one of three things: be a grossly undercosted beater, be strictly better than a Lava Spike, or draw out a counterspell/killspell. For the cost of R, all three of these options are powerful.
