Both of these cards are fine picks, but Birthing Pod might be better than either. Etched Champion is a little worse because it comes from the 1st set, so it is more abundant.

Also, what do you think about spellskite? Its currently at 2 but it pops up enough in modern that I am thinking about investing in it if it dips to 1 or below during release events.
