Probably better in draft but it might be relevant

It was actually quite hilarious. People needed something that they could maindeck that could answer Goyf, while not being 100% useless against combo decks. Thornweald only cost 2 mana, could kill Goyf/Tombstalker, and could attack for 2 against combo decks.

I saw your article today and you definitely made me reevaluate the golgari god. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I agree that they tap out but they tap out for spells that effect the board.

U/W Control taps out more than you think it would: Supreme Verdict, Jace, Elspeth.

I think Keranos could see play in U/W/R control.

Thanks! I do like Hypnotic Siren, but I wouldn’t replace Familiar though. If Siren is going to make it in the deck, I think it will be as the 9th and/or 10th one drop creatures. It’s worth considering but I don’t think it’s quite good enough.

When was the last time you saw anyone tap out for Assemble the Legion? I can’t even tell you the last time I saw someone cast that card, maybe 4 months ago was the last time. Think about tapping out for assemble in uw control, that’s what I’m talking about. Maybe if there was a blue red aggressive deck, you might want keranos, but in a control deck I’m just not on board yet. Maybe I’ll be wrong, but it doesn’t seem good enough.

I have never seen Thornweald in play in Legacy, that’s hilarious to me. I figured that with so many efficient removal spells, that type of creature would be unplayable. I’m glad I brought back some fond memories though. 🙂

I really think Launch the Fleet has power, but is currently flying under the radar. While Iroas isn’t the most insane card ever, it does help your attack phase quite a bit (cheap creatures getting outclassed by turn 4 can be a big problem). He might also randomly crack in there for 7 sometimes.

One gripe though. No respect for Thornweald?! I have fond memories of that guy being played in Legacy Jund (though it wasn’t called Jund, because we had not yet been to Alara.) Killed Goyfs and carried Jittes like a boss!

Ppl tap out for Assemble the Legion all of the time and that doesn’t spell doom at all..

Feel free to post your list that plays the new Izzet god here and I’ll take a look at it. It’s possible that he’s good enough, I just think tapping out to cast him spells doom for a control deck.

Counters+Lightning strike+Anger of the Gods Says this card is good.

I don’t play standard hardly ever.

But i will play standard for him.

Hes on my team, and i think you undervalue him because you dont see the same casual appeal that i do.

A good friend of mine has been winning FNM with a red/blue control deck running Long game control. He said this guy is the real deal. You could be a 10x better player but its still going to win me some packs
