I think the dishonesty is in fact a result of the success of Magic. Maybe we should be flattered. There is a huge amount on the line in tournaments and #mtgfinance, more than ever before and growing, and it incentivizes lying cheating and stealing.

I think there’s a reason that all of the parties found cheating or counterfeiting this year were people with little to no previous ties to the community. Without any social or cultural investment they viewed it as a free opportunity to take their shot and steal from a group that means nothing to them. It’s all of our jobs to vigilantly protect ourselves and ruthlessly root out the grifters. It something doesn’t seem right, it’s probably not.
