He might mean Abbot in the Grixis Midrange deck that Michael Major’s played. Which is what I have been playing for a couple of weeks now. Abbot is even better than there than he is in Jund.

Abbot is sweet, and definitely better than any four drop I can think of! (in the Jund deck)

The blame rests completely with me, as it is my fault for not verbalizing and being completely clear with my opponent regarding my actions. A simple mistake and one that I shouldn’t have made; I gave my opponent the opportunity to gain an edge, and he took it.

The Damnation play was not really done to gain a Tasigur activation, as my Snapcaster in hand to his nothing was good enough to keep me ahead, I felt. Rather, I felt that I would take too much damage from his flashbacked Souls before I was able to deal with them, as I said in the article I was stuck on four lands, but I did not mention that the only removal spell I had in my yard post-Tasigur delve was a Kolaghan’s Command. I think my play was right, it just didn’t work out well for me.

Good report and I think it would be good to have a test and review of Michael’s list.

I do think he leaned a little heavily on Jace (possibly just to see how it played out) and that 2 is more correct – I would up the Liliana count to 4 because she’s a real lock in Modern and probably a lot stronger than Jace.

I’m not saying it is helping my win percentage, but it is fun to play.

The cryptic is rough. When I read the sequence I also thought you were doing an upkeep or draw step cryptic and had no idea why that would be a good move. Then I thought the mana leak was also a tell because I assumed your opponent was casting it to make you completely tap out on your draw step. If he immediately re-cast the angel I guess you could say he was just making you tap out so that you couldn’t counter the angel with a mana leak of your own?

The damnation is also rough but I agree with trying to get the tasigur value before wrathing – important detail is whether or not your opponent could have flashed back souls but declined to do so on the previous turn though. Otherwise I mean who’s going to play around topdecked thoughtseize? If its an IoK it does nothing :S

From the description I agree with the Angel player that you played Cryptic in your Upkeep.

From the looks of it, that communication mistake was huge in that not only did it cost you that match, but it led you into other tough ones (Burn is always a dicey proposition for control, no matter how well prepared you are, and the hand you kept would be pretty good against basically anyone but Bloom and maybe Merfolk). I do think you got a little greedy in that Abzan matchup, though – I would have hit that Damnation right away, given that I’d have 3-4 turns to deal with the Spirit tokens from the Souls flashback. The ground game was stalled, so losing Tasigur wasn’t the worst thing in the world, and a Snap-Bolt (or better yet, a Snap-Electrolyze) if you had it would have bought you even more time or turned the tide outright. That’s just my opinion, though.
