Ajani Vengeant supports this deck’s gameplan better while shoring up weaknesses, and we don’t even run him.

Double strike flying on a 6-7 goyf plus ghor clan is lethal haha

Haha, fair enough. I guess i like Ooze not for its ability to eat creatures and get huge, but to stop graveyard shenanigans like goyro vengence, snapcaster, lingering souls, living end, and whatever else. As a goyf/snap player myself, i cant stand seeing an Ooze, super versatile in this meta.

It seems to me like it could shine here. With Lotus Cobra shenanigans, and the fact that it cannot be hit by Decay or Bolt, it could help push your goyfs through at the end.

Ooze is really bad with just one green source, and he relies on opponents having creatures in their graveyards (not likely after a turn 2 Moon). Stormbreath curves out perfectly after a Blood Moon in this deck with a Lotus Cobra. Huntmaster dies to Bolt and Pyroclasm, which isn’t where I want my game finishers to be. And yeah, I’d run more Goyfs if I could, but there’s this stupid rule in Magic…

Thragtusk will definitely make those Burn players cry. Anger took the place of Ajani and I like it so far. It’s obviously bad to lose your dorks but we really needed a wipe spell to take care of decks like Goblins, Affinity, etc. It sets our opponents back enough that losing one or even two mana guys doesn’t hurt us so much.

I don’t want Pyroclasm effects to hit anything but my mana in this deck.

If you have Moon down, i feel like you can rely on Goyf, Ooze (which is shamefully missing from your list, card is bonkers), and Huntmaster to finish out the game. Also, i think Commune with the Gods could be a 1 or 2 of with this Moon strategy.

Also, when are you bringing in Anger of the Gods? Seems to mess with your game plan as well.

My LGS has a lot of burn. Thoughts on Thragtusk in the Dark-Dweller spot?

it seems like a viable possibility to me… Maybe in addition to Bloodmoon or instead as a Budget Version? The downside is of course that it is more affected by removal, but in a world of Maindeck Abrupt decay in many decklists, I don’t consider him that worse.
What do you think?

I am testing a list only dropping one Boom/Bust, one Looting, and one Oath for two Ghor-Clan Rampager and one Domri Rade. Domri is a test for now to see if he pulls his weight alongside Oath and Looting to dig through the dorks in the late game. Ghor-Clan has already proven amazing for turning your dorks into threats and providing reach alongside Heirarch.

I am also quite intrigued by the deck’s ability to easily splash for other utility pieces such as white’s sideboard options. I am also toying with the idea of using Tamiyo as a 5-drop much in the way Ajani works, just she taps a permanent instead of just holding it and she gets a draw instead of removal. The blue also could be turned into a turn 3 Glen Elendra Archmage and enough mana to activate her right away. This might be too cute, but I’m considering them both out of the board as a more controlling style for some matchups.

I’m not sure Goblin Dark-Dwellers is the best running mate for Stormbreath Dragon at the CMC5+ haymaker spot, but it’s worth testing, and using Oath of Nissa strikes me as a stroke of genius, given that it’s more or less a green Ponder here. I’m wondering if the likes of Ghor-Clan Rampager (pump effect early, evasive beater in the midgame) might be worth considering here?

Aside from the obvious Boom synergy, Citadel grows Tarmogoyf if we loot it away or blow it up under a Blood Moon.

WR Blood Moon is a deck, although not a very good one. It first showed up when Treasure Cruise was everywhere. Some google searches should help you out, but I will say don’t play Moons with Paths. Good luck!

The point is to Boom turn two with Citadel out, and use it as your target for Boom. It basically makes Boom into Sinkhole.

This is not true. Blood moon removes all abilities from nonbasic lands. It will keep the Supertype Artifact Land, but its text box will be replaced with “T: Add R to your mana pool”.

The citadel keeps indestructible under moon is what you’re missing.
