As a visitor of the site, I must say, I wish this site had more MTGO video content. I love watching skilled players play innovative decks.

And serum powder is just plain awful. Disappointed in this article.

thanks for the reply, Jordan.

If you get round to having a go with the deck (apart from anything else, it’s fun), I’d be happy to discuss some in-depth deck decisions with you (if you’re interested in that kind of community engagement). I’ve taken the deck to several large tournaments, FNMs and tested against a rigorous tier 1, 2 and rogue gauntlet.
(incidentally, this testing is how I ended up running simian spirit guide and gemstone caverns, after dismissing them as a non-bo initially. they really make all the difference).

i share your opinion. Getting kind of annoying to see someone trying to jam serum powder in everything. There’s a reason why no one is playing it, so why being stubborn and jam it into every deck you try to make.

Then don’t write about your pet card!!!
I can’t believe this got past the editors at Modernnexus. Hoped to read high-level content on this site.

Please either back your pet cards with evidence or videos where we see the card in action. This theory crafting without any backup is just a waste of time.

My buddy swears by Eldrazi Tron and has been trying to convince me of the same thing for weeks. I think you guys may be right. Watching him play at States today showed me how absurdly explosive the deck can be, even without Eye.

Apologies, forgot the sideboard:

4 Chalice of the Void (made significantly better because of spirit guide and gemstone caverns)
2 gut shot
1 all is dust
3 Relic of progenitus
2 Grafdigger’s Cage
1 spatial contortion
2 flex spots (currently testing various things)

I have found this to be a fairly optimal board for a very burn-heavy metagame, which i have at my local scene.

The card just doesn’t do enough to warrant precious maindeck slots, especially when you want your deck to offer up threat after threat from the top of the library.

For what it’s worth, I’ve had the most success after blitzing through as many builds and variants as I could, with TronDrazi. Not drawing a temple usually works out fine because instead you’re drawing urza lands and the ultimate payoff is the same (or better). You become less reliant on just a single playset of temples and have multiple routes to stupid mana.

I have also found gemstone caverns to be a solid inclusion, as well as simian spirit guide, in flexible numbers. I am currently at a 3:3 split on those, and the net result is that on the play or the draw, I frequently get turn 2 reality smashers or Thought-knot seers.

In addition to all of this, I have yo-yoed around with the concept of still including mimic, and through a lot of testing, finally put the innocuous little guy back in. In a version sporting almost exclusively broken mana, it makes sense to have an early play that scales well. It makes for extremely profitable attacks, and pushes through midrange decks adequately.

And finally, endless one is a must in this version. With Sanctum of Ugin, the X cost guy becomes a tutor as well as an easy 7/7 on turn three. It has been consistently one of the more valuable spells in the deck by virtue of its versatility and ability to stunt an aggro player early or crush a late-game board-stall.

My list is as follows:

4 Eldrazi mimic
4 Endless One
4 matter reshaper
4 Thought-Knot Seer
4 Reality Smasher
3 Endbringer
1 ulamog, the ceaseless hunger

3 simian spirit guide
3 oblivion stone
1 ratchet bomb
1 spellskite
4 Expedition Map

4 Eldrazi Temple
4 Urza’s Tower
4 Urza’s Power Plant
4 Urza’s Mine
3 gemstone caverns
1 wastes
2 Ghost Quarter
1 sea gate Wreckage
1 Sanctum of Ugin

Bear in mind the exile effects from spirit guide and caverns make the sea gate Wreckage much better, and Endbringer has (so far) been the most incredible versatile threat in the current metagame. The deck can draw lots of cards and really overwhelm any midrange or controlling opponent. Cavern of Souls can come in from the board or even replace a ghost quarter in the maindeck.

Expedition map isn’t the slow durdle-rock you’d imagine when you can tap 2, find and play temple, and tap for 2. It’s pseudo free ramp for the following turn, and can also get ghost quarters and Sanctum to just run away with games when you need to.

Have fun. It’s been the most consistently powerful version I’ve tested so far. Every other version gets stuck playing “fair” with its manabase about 60% of the time and it feels like a bad creature deck. This version is hyper fast and has the best late game of the bunch.

Yes, whenever I want more removal density I take out Powder for interaction.

Do you side them out in any matchups? If so, in which?
Thanks a lot

I’m not big on videos since I can’t stand to watch them myself – they’re way too slow for my taste. When I bring the deck to a bigger event I’ll post some reports, but until I get my hands on Traverses I’ll be jamming Temur Delver.

Oath contributes only one card-type and only does that if your opponent destroys the do-nothing enchantment or if you have two copies. Love the card but it isn’t real in here at all.
Also small criticism of the article: It is fine to respond to criticism and defend your choices. But save it for the comments. Your content is generally good. You shouldn’t waste time on nitpicky fluff like this. Maybe you were busy this week.

With Oath, you’re effectively playing three G mana tutors to find what you need. Also gives you something to do on turn 1 and contributes to Delirum (it’s a legendary enchantment) and also pumps Tarmogoyf.
