It was expected that fetch lands would also go down in price, but as a group of new players came into our store – I have told them to trade the new ones for the older Zendikar fetches because even though they have dipped in price, there is no doubt they will double in price soon due to the fact those lands are limited in availability. What an easy way to make money in this game. Now Wizards just needs to change Modern format so it is not so old and stale anymore. They could reprint the power 9 or dual lands as a From the Vault – but they know that sales would be awesome- enabling players to experience the legacy of old school and why many of us still play Magic after 20 years.
Tarmogoyf is probably the most stable card to prove how the price remains even though how many times has it been reprinted. I could see them releasing the older cards again because the reserve list is only making people to stop playing. Why would Wizards implement a no proxy policy without the though of reprint.

Ben Bleiweiss is on record and has done multiple published articles saying SCG would be in favor of the abolition of the reserved list.

That’s only uncommon. 😉

Shkreli seems like a flash-in-the-pan/troll who will eventually move on to more lucrative things. A pump-and-dumper needs to be able to dump. What is he going to do with a bunch of power he doesn’t play and can’t unload?

The other speculators are potentially more damaging. TCG’s new pricing policy seems like it might moderate that influence.

The cards on the reserved list are not the most liquid cards. I think SCG earns more on standard cards than on reserved list cards. Their stock for standards cards is probably much higher than the stock on reserved list cards.

And if WOTC ever decides to reprint dual lands, SCG will lose money on that stock, but if this makes legacy more popular, they earn more on the other cards.

legacy is now full stocked with ‘recent’ cards. If legacy was more accessible, they can sell all this cool stuff.

sideboard cards in modern go higher in price then sideboard cards in legacy because of the difference in popularity (it’s a trend I observe, not a fact).

These are good points. I do remember people being upset that chronicles threatened collections and also about what was actually printed. Chronicles did put the game’s future at risk. As for SCG, who knows how they might respond to an elimination of the reserved list. Perhaps they would not sue, but they would likely consider it. Again, who’s to say. The threat exists though.

SCG are in favor of the reserved list being dropped and have argued that the most valuable cards would actually increase in value.

I was around for Chronicles and maybe it was a local thing but I don’t remember people being worried about the value of their collection. What I remember is most folks being annoyed because the cards they chose to reprint in Chronicles were largely crap and not used. When folks compare sets like MM and EMN to Chronicles they tend to ignore both the fact the cards were so poor and that it was an unlimited print run that was in print for over a year.
