Sadly that’s about how I’ve mostly come to feel about the site since Sheridan left – and this article is a good example of that: nothing really insightful (except for one here and there, and perhaps Ryan’s articles) that hasn’t already appeared on other sites first (StarCityGames, Channel fireball or Mtggoldfish).

Even the in-depth the top decks page hasn’t been updated since September.

This used to be my go-to site for modern content, but since Sheridan left its now dropped to #4, the maybe-i-get-to-it-eventually level… And this is the only one that’s specific to modern. 🙁

I guess I can only hope Sheridan comes back.

Spell pierce=best counterspell in modern. It has won me more games than i can count. Its always a one of in my infect deck. Modern is a creature heavy format, so it isn’t perfect, but the versatility is priceless.

How are numbers a vague metric? Please explain. Top 50 is not a great measure in of itself but you can see the percentage of decks that are playing them on the same page.

According to stats of mtggoldfish.com:

EE is seeing play in 25% of decks

Anger of the Gods is seeing play in 27% of decks

Collective Brutality is seeing play in 28% of decks

Surgical Extraction is seeing play in 19% of decks

Spell Pierce is seeing playing in 9%

I would like to know how that qualifies them as underappreciated? By assumption, if the cards are seeing that much play, they are getting plenty of attention.

yeah this site is quickly becoming yesterday’s news. no primers, no deck techs, no interesting new tech. just vanilla articles about stuff everyone figured out last week. hate to be so critical, but i had high hopes that this would be the place for in depth modern coverage, but the tier list hasn’t been updated in forever, the articles quite frankly are boring and uninformative. some one was telling me the other day that the only reason the visit this site is to make sure infect is still good. guess what? it is.

You are correct, but Top 50 noncreature spells is such a vague metric. Twisted Image is a Top 50 card. So is Ravenous Trap. And Chromatic Sphere. I just don’t find much of value from that list. In my opinion, these are cards that are making significant waves, or not getting the amount of attention I feel they deserve.

I dont know how much play it sees atm but golgari charm in dredge kills rest in peace and counters anger of the gods – you have to draw it and have the mana, but its a pretty legit answer to the decks biggest weaknesses.

Greater gargadon could also make a comeback if dredge wants more resilience to anger.
