the aetherborn are now nighthawks #1-4, with the actual nighthawks being 5-6 or 7, and it powers up nykthos much faster, which you can actually live to get to with push.
im not saying you can take down a gp with the list, but you can for sure sweep a poor defenseless fnm, or maybe even take it to a gpt/rpt and try to catch all the creature decks.

I agree with most of these assessments, although ballista can be a very strong card in tron.

Whir of invention is a toolbox card. People are trying to jam it into eggs etc but it’s not a speed card.

It’s for assembling combo. Or lockouts. I’m sure it’s modern playable but not just by slotting it into another deck

Thoptersword isn’t a deck that can, or will, see play in Modern. Whir is clunky, expensive, and won’t change that. Eggs has serious difficulty getting to uuu without reinventing the deck. Possible, but extremely unlikely. Ballista is equally unimpressive. Spire of Invention, however, is an upgrade over glimmer void, but how relevant it’s improvements actually are is a question. Against any artifact wrath except Hurkyls Recall, there is little to no difference– the deck is equally neutered.

Better? Idk but worth a thought.

Also the point about yahenni’s not killing wall of omens is actually one of its best parts.

Consider using it alongside wall of omens in an esper list that’s also running visions. Wall forces the opponent to play to the board and go wide, at which point your lightsweeper is one sided and can also get dumb value. It’s not the same sort of role as damnation etc though. Those are important more for their universality than anything.

I play it in the side of my sultai deck. Doesn’t kill my goyf or my flayer. Clears up tokens, pesky hexproof creatures, zoo boards etc

Whir with thoptersword or eggs, ballista with any big mana, counter, or artifact deck.

Outside nod to scrap trawler and that new city of brass land.
