If you expect Stony you are supposed to board differently vs UWx. Keep Mimics; trim Powders and Bombs. Crucial to properly read how well opponents understand the deck. They tend to offer a lot of info on this front in g1 and are likelier to bring in Stony for g3 if they lose to Relic etc. That said, they don’t all run it.

Definitely read through the CES archives and feel free to stop by the MTGSalvation thread. Lots of great info already exists.

Is that just for void testing? Or should I be swapping a bomb or something into the main to sb a cavern atm? I did make the change of cutting 2nd sea gate for a 3rd scavenger and am happy with that so far. I’m currently 16-2 in LGS weeklies with this pile now lol.
Also a guy finally figured out stony is good post sb in conjunction with secure the wastes lol. I won those matches vs uwr but lost a g1 to secure and a g2 in another match.

I had to make a choice of what deck to go all in on to play in my first SCG coming up soon, and decided to go with this deck. I’ve been testing it a lot online and proxied what I don’t have in person and play it a lot. I saw Zhalfirin Void before I saw your article and immediately thought it was an auto include in the deck. I also think swapping Sea Gate out for it is probably best. I kind of want to run 3-4 of them, so, I think Ghost Quarter might need shaved too. It’s usually the 2nd least used land in my experience. Anyways, any other tips/changes/suggestions you have between now and May when I go to the tournament would be greatly appreciated! I will keep checking out Modern Nexus!

Right now I have the third Gemstone in the board! It’s just too dumb on the draw.

Though I guess I should clarify that I would not go below 2x Caverns in any event.

I’ve hit two lands of Wreckage into my draw step many times, which just shuts the engine down hard.

Personally I’m a far bigger fan of cutting Caverns than Quarter–the legendary rule bites me on the butt a lot and has too often kept me from getting to Smasher mana on time.

K, I though that might be true but wanted your take, again thanks for all the info love the deck, looking forward to trying a couple of Zhalfirin in the deck in place of Sea Gate Wreckage which i have not liked at all.

I have actually found Jund to be one of the matchups where our opener matters the least. I’m even boarding out Powders against them currently. The matchup is much more about quickly recognizing the important angles of attack for both players in each game, noticing as quickly when they shift (which they do), and always playing to the right gameplan for each situation. So yeah, it’s 100% about reps.

We’re tight on space as things are. Those cards carry significant costs for inclusion—Bauble slows us down; Wraith hurts our aggro matchups. Both make our mulligans worse, which actively works against the deck’s bottom line: mulligan into Temple. So no.

Big fan of the deck! scourge, thought-knot, smasher, temple are such super stars. Talking about the void scry and having an even tighter, more consistent deck, have you ever though about adding more air to just churn through the deck. like +4 mishra’s bauble, +4 street wraith to go along with the +4 Zhalfirin Void?

Thanks for the input. I probably just need to mull better and get more reps in lol

It could, hence the subtlety section at the end of this article. But I don’t think so. Copter does a lot more for us than just filter; check out my Play Tips Primer. Besides, it filters in a totally different way than Void does and even improves alongside the scry land (pseudo-Preordain).

We’re very mana-hungry vs Jund post-board and would never be able to cast AID. We beat them anyway though so I’m not sure why you would be looking for SB cards vs Jund in the first place. I have tried the card for the Value CoCo matchup but prefer Bomb #4 or Gut #2 there instead.

I think 3 may be the right number of zhalfir but we’ll see. I couldn’t find it in the articles but I could be blind. Thoughts on 1 all is dust instead of 4th ratchet or 2nd gut shot for the jund/etc MU? Thanks!

Should its presence prompt any re-examination of the Smuggler’s Copter spot?

Haven’t tested it, but don’t want it. 1 damage is not reason enough to include a land. The scry from Void is much better and our land space is tight enough as it is—I’d rather run Quarter 4 or Gemstone 3 over Sunscorched for sure.
