(Not sure if links are allowed) Here’s the list I just brewed up. I’d like your input on it if possible. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/goblin-song-2/?cb=1525997549

That never even occurred to me. Song makes a lot of sense: Hemorrhage out one drops, play song, dump something big, win when the song finishes. I’d be very interested to see if that works out.

This would increase the speed and chances of finding Metallic Mimic/Redcap to combo out or at the very least help flood the board for the Song to be effective. I’m just kinda thinking how it could be done. I’ll be working on a list entitled Goblin Song later on today wish me luck.

Trickster is very interesting, but Roland said everything I was going to say. I will add that I like it much better than Harbinger of the Tides.

Goblins aggro has always been a tough matchup for Merfolk just because they explode faster. In my experience the key to victory was to be the control deck until you built up enough lords to kill in one hit. This hasn’t changed for the Goblins tribal deck, but that Goblins prison deck was much slower and couldn’t realistically race the Merfolk deck.

This is true, but with the effort you’re putting into running white, isn’t it just better to go Abzan? The problem with the combo decks I’ve tried is that they can’t find the combo pieces and Collected Company/Chord of Calling excel at that. You also have fixing and acceleration from the mana dorks. Even as a backup plan, stretching to play a single double white spell in a mono-red deck seems ambitious.

Great read, I have had a different experience while playing fish against a pretty fantastic goblins aggro build online recently. After getting roflstomped in three rounds we concluded that if the new goblins can hang with fish (often going wider and in some cases–taller) then it can probably hang with just about anything. It’s an exciting time for goblins players of all varieties for certain.

On a side note, any interest in returning to write about Merfolk? Tricksters are pretty good, and the meta doesn’t seem quite so hostile. Maybe it’s time for a resurfacing?

Thanks for all you do for the community.

You could try to go combo way the same way goblin bodding did during its tine. Thought we dont have breaktrough to dump some goblins and bidding itself, you could use rally the ancestors to bring back all the goblins you have sacrificed to power rally in the first place. In this case rally for 3 will cost 5 and bring back all the lords/ piledrivers /rabblemasters/ loyalists to one-shot an opponent. If you go deeper there is an option for t3 siege gang & hasted krenko which is incredible amount of mana and creatures.
Double white is a bit hard to pull, but we can use rugged highlands in multiples as well as manamorphose. White opens thalia and perfect sideboard for modern also. And dont forget faithless looting which is the most powerfull grave-filling/selection spell.
And if g2 gravehate happens we just smash faces. Having two somehow reliable plans and also some filtering in stompy deck looks great to me.
