I agree unlimited is poised to increase next, though I think CE/ICE is going to follow on the heels. Some folks, as you said, prefer black border. In addition, the ability to find minty CE/ICE is much easier and cheaper for those who do not like played cards (I fall into this camp).

I have been acquiring NM/M power and duals of CE over the last few months. The major online vendors have really dried up on stock. For example, Card Kingdom had ~15 pieces of power as recently as two weeks ago. They now have 3.

Looking at buylist prices, CE power follows a similar trend that you point out in your article. CK is around 280/315 for CE/ICE power. ABU buylists are 400-600 for CE NM power! I suspect there are some opportunities to pick up some cheaper CE/ICE pieces and buylist to ABU.

Love your articles, keep up the great work.

Cheers,

Wood

Wood Young,

That’s an excellent question! If you had asked me 12-24 months ago, I would have said that CE/IE were great pickups because of their gradual adoption in Old School. I even wrote an article on the subject a while back. But if you ask me now in the present, I gotta say CE prices seem awfully steep compared to Unlimited counterparts. I’d be inclined to put my money into Unlimited personally, unless you absolutely cannot stomach white bordered cards. I think UNL prices will outpace CE prices over the next 6 months. But this is just a guess, of course.

What are your thoughts?

Sig

The prices for these two sets have been on the rise, though not many folks outside the old school communities even know about it because they don’t get reported on mtgstocks (AFAIK).

I can understand a quick flip when you make gains on it, but it feels to me like they could also be good to hold for like half a year as they’re likely to appreciate.
