I never did test the surveil mechanic myself, mission briefing does indeed look so clunky as the pay off requires so much mana, thought scour just seems better if you want to mill 2, its hard to beat charms versatility in the 2 drop slot. Thought erasure could be could, a real shame wotc modern card design limits player options and wont let it target yourself. Speaking of modern card desgin, notice how there is a cycle of 1 mana hybrid card yet the one card this deck needed and could have been printed was at 2cmc making it almost unplayable for modern. I havent picked up the deck in quite some time as the modern meta is very hostile to these types of combos, with a bajillion surgicals being played these days. Eladamris call and the new vesperlark have created some new brewing space, the deck mana base i feel would be a train wreck seeing you now want all 5 colors. But in hind sight i had success with the deck when DRS was legal, so never tell me the odds

They do though.

After amonkhet, split card cmc when not on the stack = total cmc of both halves.

The rules don’t work that way…

It fills their grave, filters their draws, and since it has a CMC of 7 when not on the stack, they don’t have to worry about cascading into it. They also don’t need blue mana to cast it. Which, I think, is really the biggest thing the card has going for it. It’s a cantrip for decks that might not have had access to serum visions or opt due to mana restrictions.

It’s also pretty good at feeding Tarmogoyf.

Well there is that, but even if that wasn’t the case, you die at the beginning of the end step and so can’t go onto the next extra turn.

euh so does chance for glory ?
that (nearly) wins the game on its own once locked down. briefing needs other spells to synergize.

The first question is whether Nightveil solves any problems for Faeries. As I understand it, the main problem with the deck is how anemic it is without a turn 2 Bitterblossom, and I doubt Nightveil fixes that.
The second question is if there’s room. Faeries’ niche is having all the creatures be disruptive answers and Nightveil isn’t, so I don’t think it will work.
I’d love to be wrong, though. Mostly so when Sprite hits you can say “Welcome, to Night Vail.”

Not that Mill is a staple or anything, but as a Mill guy I’m really looking forward to adding it to my deck.

The fact it has surveil 2 will come up sometimes – you briefing fishing for removal or counterspell with fail state of casting an opt.

I do think briefing, jtms, and disrupting shoal can be put together somehow to good effect.

Huh, hadn’t that of that. When that works out, yeah that does seem pretty insane.

1- Puts cards into the graveyard, helping turn on your Pyromancer Ascension.
2- Is an instant/sorcery for the purposes of Thing, Young Peezy, and Ascension.
3- Because of number 2, it will get copied by an active Ascension, which just seems silly.

As an example of said silliness, if you have an active ascension, a manamorphose in the GY, another in hand, and a mission briefing, you get to effectively spend 1R and exile both manamorphoses to: Draw 2, Surveil 2, Surveil 2, Draw 4, Add 8 mana to your mana pool….which just sounds bonkers.
