It was never intended that a player be able to cherry pick and have access to every single card in a x4 quantity.

You are supposed to make tough decisions driven by scarcity. Is it worth it to play Lord of the Pit because it does have the ability to end games? Do I have any other huge super monsters in my pool? Brainwash is not great removal but boy does it do some huge work in the first 6 or so turns of the game. Always the question: “Is it worth it?”

I find more and more that question gets confused by other factors and that is what makes the game less fun and exciting to play – because those questions are being asked in the wrong “arena” (for lack of a better word).

So not only is this a great article for being a callback to a particularly fundamental and awesome moment in Magic history for Sig, it’s also great because it points out the fundamental nature of Magic the Gathering as a card game and what it does so much better than practically every other card game out there for 30 years.

My only other comment is that I do not have the fortitude to crack open that sealed product. It would live dusty on my shelves for the rest of eternity. Good on you for having the power to crack sealed product! (I understand that was the deal but I could not make such a deal!)
