It’s good that the Magic community won’t stoop to any level and buy absolutely ANYTHING (Magic 30th) but we really need to be less fragmented if the vast majority of players want change. That’s something I’ve commented on and it’s why Hasbro is directing things like they are: Magic means a lot of different things to a lot of different people so there is not one player identity to rally behind. Except hating Hasbro and Magic 30th.

Seems like WotC tried to follow the Pokemon model with Magic 30th Anniversary Edition and received a great deal of backlash from players. They might have been testing the brand’s collecting potential if anything else. It would be great to see Magic establish a presence in those types of events. For most Magic players it’s still about the game.
