Exactly. Having some cash on hand at pre-release events can help you to secure the cards your looking for at a cheaper cash price than in trade value. Then the danger becomes cutting through they hype and figuring out the true value of cards over the next few weeks.

Personally, I'm in the process of moving my Jaces, and most of my LOR Extended cards (especially now that Naya and Mono-Red are viable!) while the prices are still up. Gotta be able to pick up MBS and Eternal staples somehow!

Completely agree. Even $5 cards go for $30+ for their foil versions if they are Vintage staples.

My Jaces (sadly, non-foil) are on sale at the moment (moving to MUD for Vintage for now), and I'll be picking them back up after the crash. As it stands, they're funding my final steps toward full power!

Yep, as time goes on and as long as Jace continues to be played in Legacy the foil version will slowly but steadily gain value. It will drop twice, as every card does in its lifetime. Once when it rotates from standard, and again when it rotates from extended. The price will see a slight recovery between the two periods, with an annual rise and drop as extended season comes back around and then finishes. It will take time for the foil version to rise back up to its highest points (right now) but it will and then it will exceed even its current value, but that may be years down the road.

I too have given thought to offloading mine and then just reaqcuiring them later at a profit, but something just tugs at me not to despite all reason to the contrary. Really, though, there's no reason not to- there's no chance of them going *up,* and even if they break even I've lost nothing (little chance of that, too).

To answer your question about this, I will again go back to the Thoughtseize bit. It's played in Legacy decks as well, but still took a hefty hit as it rotated first out of standard, and another at the end of extended last year. I still see Jace 2.0 doing the same thing.

As for the foil, you might be able to find it a little cheaper after rotation, but after that possible small dip, the foil is going to continue to rise as time goes on.

I have to put myself in the mindset of a person who pursues foil Jaces, either for collecting or playing. I think that person would be interested in Eternal formats to show off their cards, so I would wager that the price will stay pretty close to what it is. It might be helpful to consider the price of foil Gifts Ungiven, which is still ridic, despite being uninvited to most Magic games.

Jace is going to see play in Vintage for a long, long time, and he'll be a fixture in Legacy as well. I'd wager that the foil price won't ever really dip.

I collect foil planeswalkers, just one English copy of each planeswalkers in each art that is available. What will happen to the price of foil Jace, the Mind Sculptors after rotation? What about as time moves on after that?

Should I sell my playset of regular Jaces now and use the cash to get a foil copy? That doesn't seem like a great deal, but if foil Jaces are going to continue to skyrocket despite rotation, maybe I should?

Love to hear everyone's thoughts.

I am so nervous to sell my Jaces. I absolutely hear what you are saying in the article, but part of me hesitates thinking, what about Jace seeing play in eternal formats?

Do you think he will still lose that 30-50% in value despite seeing some play in older formats?
