I'm heading to my first big tournament in more than a year, a SCG Open in Dallas next week. I'm really excited about it, and also a bit nostalgic from the first event I went to, where I was loaned a merfolk deck and did very well.

Well, the first half anyway.
Well, the first half anyway.

It got me thinking, and in the spirit of passing along the goodwill that was extended to me then when someone handed me their Underground Seas, I'm giving away a free box of Magic 2015 to one random respondent here.Β

  1. That is very generous of you and glad to see the magic community continuing to thrive.

Good Luck on your first big tournament. Being a primarily MTGO player my first and only Grand Prix was in San Jose some years back. I conveniently played white weenie during Planar Chaos Block. I didn’t make day 2 but it was still a very fun experience beating a lot of control decks who couldn’t keep up. Take a lot of pictures πŸ™‚

  2. so im confused are we supposed to comment here? Anyway though, GOOD LUCK!! I’m very new to magic so I’m not sure if this is a big tournament, but do awesome!

  3. It’s awesome that you get handed underground seas. I’ve been inspired by the “paying it forward” articles around and have given out couple of self built edh decks myself. Giving back to the community feels good indeed!

  4. my first major event consisted of my stringing together 3 way wild decks from 7th edition. On a side note I miss the days when prereleases where major events.

  5. Hi, I’m French and I read your analyses daily. I am a MTGO player. I think Waste Not and Jace, the Living Guildpact will reveal their true power with the release of Khans of Tarkir. What do you think about it?

I wish you good games in your upcoming tournament. I also wish I win the M15 Booster Box! (I would pay for the delivery charges).

    Yours magicfully,

    Bert

    1. Hey Bert! I think Jace is way more powerful than people are giving it credit for, mainly because of how high the starting loyalty is. Waste Note I’m less sure about, since it takes a fairly dedicated deck to work. I have more hope for it in Modern than Standard.

  6. In my playgroup its always been a give and take.
If someone needs a specific card another one will help.

Crossing fingers for your big tournament.
    Good luck!

  7. Hey Corbin – love your posts and analysis on this site. it’s also nice to see good intentions and generosity seem to be more prevalent than card sharks and scammers. seems to bode well for all those new players and the magic community as a whole.
    Best of luck!!

  8. I really enjoyed your article on Hasbro’s earnings. Good luck in your tourney and don’t forget that real men play Aquaman (merfolk).

  9. I shall shamelessly admit I am only here to try my luck to get the free box of M15. But i really do enjoy the articles posted on Quiet Speculation. All the best for your tournament in Dallas! It’s gonna be a fun ride!

  10. When I attend a tournament l always give the youngest player I see a money rare. I hope they’ll do something similar down the road if they stick with the game.

Gl and hf at the tourney!

  11. Hope your tournament went well! I love the idea of paying it forward in the gaming community. We have a pretty generous group, especially giving lots of stuff to the younger players. My kids are just getting old enough to appreciate the awesomeness of MTG, and right now I am having fun seeing how they decide if a card is good or bad. But they keep showing me how all cards can be good for something in quirky little ways.
