This episode of Quiet Speculation's ten minute market podcast goes over Elspeth, Sun's Champion - do you buy them at $30 or sell all of your copies? Also, we've got an interview with Kelly Reid of QS about how he turned a pile of trash cards into a nice-looking piece of Beta power. And instead of grinding binders over months, Kelly pulled this off in a day and tells you how you can do it, too. What kind of cards are you holding onto that nobody ever asks to trade out?

Since the Eternal market follows a routine boom-bust cycle, the time to buy and sell short-term speculative investments is often a narrow window. Because Eternal cards often spike in value once people know why they are good, it is essential for a trader to be connected to the format to get great buys before anyone else. 1. I disagree with your thoughts on WHY Elspeth isn’t a good buy at $30, as in my testing it has been quite impactful, but I still easily see it going down from $30. Standard appears to be much weaker than we’ve had for the past few years, and while Elspeth wouldn’t have been good last year it really slows things down and allows control decks to completely take over games as soon as it comes down just by +1ing a couple times. That all said, it costs six and you easily never want four in a deck, and it definitely doesn’t go into every white deck.

tl;dr- The card is definitely a playable mythic, but it costs six and you likely never want to play four. I’m no finance guru, just thought I’d chime in on playability.

  2. I enjoyed the podcast, but what Kelly did was something a LOT of us have done…and while it is nice to consolidate a lot into something cool, chances are higher that had he buy listed/sold some of his stuff he could have “paid” less. I have recently started trading down legacy staples towards bulk rares/buylist prices and it’s VERY lucrative. The trick is to make sure you’re well stocked and have the stuff people want. As for Elspeth, I’m on the fence with her…she seems really good and people really like her a lot. If control starts playing more of her, I would expect cards like Legion Loyalist to go up as he can help you turn her into a 6 mana timely reinforcements

  3. When can we expect more Merchant Scroll ???

Honestly one of the BEST financial podcasts I’ve ever heard. Even though I love the BSB guys, their casts can run a little long (think 2 hours for about 20 minutes of meat). I would KILL for more Merchant Scroll casts, especially in this interesting financial season shaping up with Theros
