Insider Video: Zwischenzug Plays Tarmo-Twin and a VMA Booster Pack Contest

The contest for a VMA booster is pretty simple. After you've watched the videos, leave a comment, and I'll pick one I like to win the pack.

You could suggest a change to the deck list, a different sideboarding strategy, a different line of play, make a pun, or do none of those things. While I always like it when people say nice things about me, it's unlikely to help your chances. Good luck!

I'm going on a family vacation this week so I won't be able to respond to any comments in a timely fashion, but I look forward to what you have to say.

  1. As an affinity player who has a lot of tarmo twin in his meta, I can honestly say that for me, Cryptic Command is a way bigger problem than Clique. Clique may ship a card like Plating to the bottom (if we still have a hand) but the same can be countered or bounced. Also tapping all his creatures after he activates blinkmoth, might’ve actually helped you if you raced as two goyf hits and a bolt would probably have been enough.

Just my two cents on that one but overall great plays, it’s always interesting (and educational) to see your videos 🙂

    1. I’m back from a lovely little vacation and this comment is the winner. I enjoyed all of the comments, but this one raised some good points and made me think the most.

  2. Can you do modern affinity at some point? I just finished it in paper and have found a surprising lack of good videos online playing it, at least from a pro’s perspective. I’ve been watching GP and Open videos with it, but actually hearing the players perspective is always nice.

    1. I’ll consider it, but agro decks aren’t my style so no guarantees. I think Frank Karsten has made some affinity videos, maybe you can google them.

  3. I was watching Kenji’s stream when you donated 5 tix for his play and just wanted to say that was a pretty sweet move.

Just rewarding tight play in real time.

  4. Your videos are very cool to watch but a little discouraging, in that they illustrate the immense depth of knowledge you have, that I, as a new player, am nowhere near. I especially enjoyed your constant thought about when to fetch and the importance of fetching before draw spells for the microscopic advantage. It’s obviously something I’m aware of but never thought to be relevant enough to give much thought in a game. It was interesting that you seemed to really give every tiny advantage a lot of thought.

My personal favorite part of the videos is the choices of which land to destroy against the tron opponent. (I face this a lot in my local meta.) I personally have always just targeted the tower, but I liked your plan of destroying the one they just played, as it not only makes more sense but also paid off.

    1. Thanks for the kind words. I wouldn’t worry too much about fetching, I only do that because I feel I have plenty of time and not too much else to think about. If you’re newer to a deck or format, you’re absolutely correct to focus your mental energies on other things.
